With the ZZZ 2.5 beta test now underway, more and more leaks are being uncovered. Through data mining, we’ve obtained the action animations for the new 2.5 banner character, including their Ultimate, EX Special Skill, Basic Attack, Chain Attack, Quick Assist, and Dash.

| ZZZ 2.5 New Character Zhao

According to some leaked information, Zhao is likely to be an Ice Defense Agent with a transformable weapon. As a member of the Krampus Compliance Authority in the TOPS, she traveled to Waifei Peninsula to investigate the operational violations of Porcelumek Company and Lucro's own misconduct.

From the leaked renderings and currently available information, Zhao’s weapon appears to have three forms — sword, axe, and ice sword.

Based on the data mined from the 2.5 beta, it’s now confirmed that Ye Shunguang is a Physical Attack character, while Zhao belongs to the Ice Defense type.

| ZZZ Zhao's Dash Animation

Zhao’s running animation is way cuter than I expected—I didn’t think she’d choose to hop around while carrying that massive greatsword! HoYoverse perfectly captures the contrast between the weapon’s heavy bulk and Zhao’s petite frame, while still letting us feel her strength and control.

As the old saying goes, the gentle overcomes the strong — Zhao embodies that perfectly.

| ZZZ Zhao's Basic Attack Animation

From the animation, we can see that Zhao’s basic attack consists of four hits. The fourth hit appears to be a high-damage smash with multiple damage instances and invincibility frames.

Since we don’t yet have more information about Zhao’s full skill kit, it’s still unclear whether her basic attack will serve as a significant damage-dealing tool in her overall gameplay.

| ZZZ Zhao's Ex Special Skill Animation

The entire Ex Special Skill animation lasts around 4 seconds. However, unlike Caesar and Pan Yinhu, whose EX Special Skills deal single-instance damage, Zhao’s EX Special Skill appears to have multiple damage hits.

It’s still unclear whether Zhao’s EX Special Skill can trigger the next teammate’s Quick Assist. If Zhao is meant to serve as a damage-boosting support, the animation duration of her EX Special Skill might feel a bit too long in actual combat.

A fairly standard Chain Attack, but I really like the final part where she retracts her weapon and returns to her idle stance.

| ZZZ Zhao's Assist Attack Animation

This animation is full of fun little details — like Zhao wobbling on top of her weapon as if she’s about to lose her balance, and struggling with both hands and feet to pull her weapon out of the ground. HoYoverse’s excellent animation work really makes Zhao an even more memorable and charming character.

| ZZZ Zhao's Ultramate Animation

At the beginning of her Ultimate, Zhao hides behind her weapon and peeks out from behind it before leaping into the air with the weapon raised.

I suspect that in the final Cinematic Ultimate animation, this sequence will start with a close-up shot focused tightly on the weapon, then pan upward to follow Zhao as she jumps into the air. The weapon will slash toward the camera, creating a transition effect, and finally the scene will cut back to a medium shot to showcase the rest of her attack animation.

| ZZZ 2.5 New Character Zhao's Role Prediction

Generally, Defense-type characters in Zenless Zone Zero tend to focus on support and recovery, with relatively weaker DPS capabilities. For example, Caesar provides shields and attack buffs, while Pan Yinhu offers healing and Sheer Force boost.

Judging from Zhao’s attack animations, however, she may not necessarily provide shielding or healing. It seems she might have to take on some DPS responsibilities instead.

Considering the new boss’s apparent weakness to Daze Efficiency, Zhao might also have partial Stun capabilities. To avoid overlapping roles with Caesar, she’s unlikely to provide attack buffs. At the same time, since Dialyn also lacks attack buffs, and Astro Yao already covers a similar support niche, Zhao’s kit might instead involve converting her Defense stat into Resistance Penetration for her teammates.

It’s also worth noting that the animations we’ve seen so far represent only part of Zhao’s moveset—there’s still no information about her Ice Form attack animations. With ZZZ 2.5.1 verson to launch on November 15, we can expect more details soon, which should help us better understand Zhao’s true role and potential.

Zhao’s animations are honestly some of the cutest in all of Zenless Zone Zero, and I can’t wait for her official release!

I’m guessing she’ll be an Ice Defense character who balances Attack with resistance penetration , while also offering some Stun utility to the team.
